The Ballroom dance known as the waltz has taken on a different meaning in the 20th Century. Today many people learn and dance the waltz with such elegance and grace. They wear beautiful, elaborate costumes as they glide across the dance floor at competitions and in performances. Yet before all the glitz and glamour, the waltz was a dance known to us today as a cultural folk dance. The culture was of Austrian and German descent. How did the waltz, coming from such a humble background, become this elaborate and fancy movement that was and is still danced with such class and elegance? When was the waltz separated into the Viennese waltz and just the Waltz?
